Library News

The Red Maple Club had their first meeting on January 14. Six students volunteered to try their luck at Red Maple Jeopardy. Interested students will participate in a Round Robin tournament to decide who competes against other Peel schools in the "Battle of the Books" on April 18. Voting day is Wednesday April 23, 2008. Club members must have read 5 or more of the books in order to vote.

Our total sales at the Book Fair were $3456.25. This gave us a profit rate of 60% to put toward library books and magazines. Each year, our subscriptions to Allons-y, Bonjour, Ca Va, Chez Nous, Team and Click are renewed and paid for through the Book Fair profits. Many thanks to all who supported it!

Library Helpers are reminded that they must have at least 3 volunteer lunch hours before March break to be eligible for a second term Winit. If you have missed one of your scheduled times, please see Mrs. Fransen. Thank you to those library helpers who have already far surpassed the minimum of 3 lunch hours!

On Monday November 26, the Vivace Chorus performed at Chapters, with proceeds donated to the Library. It was obvious that the girls had worked very hard to put the performance together. They delighted shoppers with two hours of seasonal music. My heartfelt thanks go out to Miss Hallok, the girls in the Vivace Chorus, and to the parents who supported the event.

J.K. Rowling held a book signing event in the Winter Garden Theatre in October. One of our students attended the event and donated her signed copy of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows" to the library. It was a very generous gesture, one that will be appreciated by Davis students for years to come. Thank you Kirpa!
